Review: Bontrager Line Comp Pedals – A Great Value for Traction and Comfort

On our recent e-bike journey across America, we relied on a pair of Bontrager Line Comp Pedals. Initially, we had purchased a pair of inexpensive nylon pedals from Amazon, but after just 1,000 miles, they were already worn out and needed to be replaced.

Luckily, we found a replacement set of orange nylon pinned pedals at Golden Bear Bikes in Elkhart, which happened to be Trek's Bontrager Line Comp Pedals.

Good Quality Pedals

After riding more than 4,000 miles with these pedals, we are pleased to report that they are still holding up and have no significant signs of wear or damage. The pins have worn a bit which is to be expected.

The molded nylon traction pins provided excellent grip, even during wet and slippery conditions. Our feet never slipped off the pedals. The design of the pedals helped our feet stay engaged, giving them good control and stability.

Pins on Pedals

Pedal pins are important because they provide traction and help keep the rider's feet in place. This is especially important in wet conditions when the pedals become slippery, and feet unexpectedly slide off if the pedals have no traction control.

The traction pins, usually made of metal or molded into the pedal, create friction between the rider's shoes (such as our favorite Adidas bike shoes) and the pedal, providing a secure connection and preventing the feet from slipping. This increases the rider's control and stability and can help prevent accidents or injuries.

The Benefits of Nylon Traction Pins

It is common for bicycle pedals to touch shins when you come to a halt or step off. Metal pins will eventually cause cuts or bruises unless you wear shin protectors. Nylon traction pins are less likely to cause such injuries due to their softer material, and shin protectors are not required.
